Gluing themselves to things is an ability mimics have. They’re sticky.
I’m kind of surprised to see it referenced in this comic, though. I don’t believe it’s been referenced before.
@Lumin:
That would make more sense, but I do think that there is some officially-published supplement which claims that derro are mutated dwarves, even though that doesn’t fit their stat block or characterization at all. Damn writers can’t keep their short-statured races straight.
The funny thing is, I checked the 5th edition Monster Manual, and the mimic artwork clearly depicts it as having eyes (several, in fact). Apparently they must have had eyes in 3rd edition too, even though it doesn’t say so, because in both cases they have darkvision rather than blindsight.
Looking back at the monster manual, their stats include dark vision, which does imply they have eyes… but that wouldn’t make much sense, as eyes would tend to stand out on a suppsedly inanimate object. Blindsight would suit them much better, if you ask me.
That does open the funny idea that a mimic’s technique for hunting is… sleeping somewhere where some poor schmuk will be tempted to touch it.

Genre-savvyness isn’t going to get you out of a good railroading, mimic.
You’re not supposed to just take in noir. The point is that you can’t escape AFTER you tried.
Try not. Do… or do not. There is no try.
Wrong genre. Noir tends to be all try and often enough, no do.
You can’t always get what you want
But if you try sometime
You just might find
that Yoda scolds you
That’s your bad, Mimic. The private-eye always turns down the case at first. You’re playing into the trope.
Part of the genre is seeing something’s fishy and end up in it anyway, so genre savvy is in-genre for noir, really.
Except they never run for the hills.
Well, I suppose “Go away.” is more diplomatic than “Get lost.”.
Boxford P.I. – a nod to the Rockford Files
It’s just his name.
Why can’t it be both?
… But then how did he hold the glue bottle?
Mimic glue.
However, he should be able to deal with it easily.
I guess alcohol doesn’t dissolve mimic glue from the inside. From the look of things, it makes him less able to control it.

It came up once during the baseball arc.
Twice. In that he explained that gluing yourself to a raging barbarian is not a tactically sound move.
Ah, you’re right. Good memory. I had to go back into the archives to find that quote.
Hey, some dwarf representation! Love to see it.
She’s not the first dwarf on here. Remember Plaidbeard?
Don’t forget the dwarf from the very first comic that gave our team their very first quest…
I remember, it’s just been a while since there’s been a significant dwarf character around.
Now that I think about it, I guess derro are a type of dwarves. I don’t know if that’s the same thing, though. They seem different enough.
Any association derro have with dwarves is pretty weak. They don’t get any of the dwarven racial traits.
Agreed. The Monster Guide on the site says they’re basically more subterranean dwarves, but they seem like distant cousins at best.
I always assumed that derro were to halflings what the drow and duergar are to elves and dwarves.

You’re sure she’s not a halfling?
Yep, she’s up on the cast page already. She also has kind of a dwarfy build. Different from the halflings we’ve seen so far.
This whole arc reminds me of an old Sandra and Woo comic.

“I keep my eye private…” Nice callback to chapter 1.
Yup; I think he still canonically has it, just hidden.
Which surprises me, since he said he wanted to respec it…

Well, that huge mouth Mimic has isn’t exactly good for hiding either, but he can hide it when he needs to actually disguise himself.
That’s definitely a drinking problem.
I assume that is “Dame” Tarta Moon-shiner, especially since Mimic knows she is trouble.
Is that a halfling wearing shoes?
The Belt of Genre Changing does change your clothes, but she’s a dwarf.
Like most problems that occur in this genre, it’s a problem that can be solved with the application of more alcohol ????
Huh, Tarta is listed under Allies with “Class: ?” and not Friends. I wonder if she’s going to be a party member.
In the event that she is a permanent addition I’m guessing either Ranger with some kind of Urban focus or Sorcerer for her class.
It’s a bit hard to be sure when we haven’t seen her unaffected by the Belt
What surprises me is Pony Life didn’t come up with that joke first. The pony’s hooves must make glue too.
