We strongly believe he did the broken link images on purpose. I would guess the wings in level 2, http://rustyandco.com/comic/level2/level-2-5/, fall under the rule of funny and were never meant to go beyond that last panel. Considering how hard on Maddie is on her equipment, the missing Hoe-ly Avenger, her armor, the Vorpal Halberd, the Tri(Qua)dent of Warning, we should expect that she got the helmet with wings and lost it to Smiting some baddie off screen. Or she could be a half-celestial a get real wings, but I like her look as it is. Although, I bet Mike can draw a mean set of wings for Maddie. 🙂
Forget the helmet, I think that was just Maddie thinking…I actually do remember a Paladin thing somewhere that provides angelic wings and I’ll see if I can find it.
Also, Maddie would look good with wings I agree but if I remember correctly the class thing I’m thinking of can vanish/reveal said wings like an automatic antenna on cars, or have them just static there, DM’s discretion, which brings something from Mr. Welch’s DM(Mr. Raymond)’s list to mind, which I now quote:
“8. The Monster Manual is not looking for me to submit a creature called ‘DM’s Discretion’.”
I think Maddie just misunderstood–at level 3 as a Paladin she gets an additional feat, (1d10) more hit points, immunity to disease, immunity to fear effects, AND a coupon for a free medium WING basket at Mike’s House of Chicken (hence the bucket on her head in the illustration).
I tell ya, I wish that I could get free wings with every 3rd level–their backfire sauce is amazing.
Actually, that’s not a bad idea – replace the summoned mount ability with a pair of wings (feathery for Goodies, membrane-y [hmmmmm…] for Baddies) with a reasonbly limited duration. Decent idea. 🙂
What a great explanation! I’m so glad I was able to see it. Guys, I was able to get the comics themselves by clicking “View Image”—you can probably get them too if you believe hard enough.
Surely the wings aren’t wings which are used to fly.
Based on her thought balloon, I submit that the “wings” are/is actually the Winged Helm of the Defender of The Faith of the 14th degree Templar of the Grand Mystic Holy Order of the Paladins of the Temple to the Shrine, a Most Sacred Honor granted by like-minded doers of good deeds.
Even a paladin is subject to the lure of shiny badges of goodness and honor. ????

Well, now, this is just evil.
I’m laughing my head off, because that’s my brothers question. XD
Oh COME ON!
We want to knooooow.
I don’t even know what to say…this is epic level trolling. 😀
I’m glad you’re having good humor about this, I’d probably have thrown a keyboard by this point! 🙂
Greatest set of panels ever written! This has probably been my favorite mailbag.
Kudos to you sir!
Glad I could be the laughing stock 😀
Clearly the author is a level 20 Troll.
just wait until Maddie recovers, you know what she has to say about this kind of evil
Mimics never seemed all that terrifying until playing Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dungeon Keep in Borderlands 2.
Try fighting one in Dark Souls then.
*shudders*
learn how to check the chain, (The mimic chain is different, forgot exactly which one is and isn’t straight)
And then stick an axe in it.
Seriously, thoseare like the ugliest fuckers ever

Image links don’t bring up any matches in a search. It appears it is in fact the joke.

Pretty sure that #thatsthejoke.
Oh yea, Mike is NE for sure.
It took a few tries to get the comic to load fully (must be a server issue) but WOW – what a creative and fully satisfying explanation!
I think they actually are broken now.
I feel that I should say…I only hit refresh once before saying “Hey, wait a minute…”
I’ve battled trolls like this, big ones, on a certain NWN2 server… and by “battle”, I do mean running for dear life and crying like a wee lass.
I hope that’s not gonna be the end. There are still vitally-important, world-saving questions to be answered! D:
That’s just wrong, so wrong, lmao~ All that build up and… ahahahaha, you evil bastard, ahhahahaahh
See, that’s the sign of a man you can’t trust as a GM.

Not so great. Anchorbar? Really?

She used the wings to avoid the lava. She only gets the wings so many rounds per day.
Well played sir! Well played.
Panels 2 and 3 have broken links.
That’s the joke…
