Having spent cumulative years on solitary ‘guard duty’, generally a few hours at a time, but up to 16 on occasion, I can confirm that. I’ve solved all the world’s problems in my head many times over, but none of my own 😉
‘Guarding’ on a ‘Guard Post’ comes in many varieties and flavours, depending on who or what needs to be guarded.
Often described as: “hours and hours of sheer boredom interspersed with moments of pure panic”
It’s not bad, quite a quiet break sometimes, as long as you’re comfortable living with yourself.
Some people aren’t, and are more than willing to trade off with those who are, like me 🙂
A double shift of peace and quiet makes the time go past a lot faster than you’d think.
I always preferred it to listening to a bunch of people I didn’t want to talk to pester me every five minutes for something I wasn’t about to give them because everyone else had already said no 🙂
Rusty lugged Madeline all the way back to the Hook without eating her armor. He no longer regards friendly armor as food. Roxy herself, with some help from Petey, may be the source of character development here.

On sentry-go, to chase monotony

That is, assuming that he’s got any.” — W.S. Gilbert, _Iolanthe_

Very poetically put! But since you put quotes, did you mean you were literally a guard somewhere, or something else? Thanks!

Dorilys is perky and Madeline is sad. There is a problem.
She’s just in a bit of a happy-go-lucky mood.
Rusty is not trying to eat her armor. :O
